Welcome to the TyneTrans Website!

TyneTrans - What do we do? Where are we located?

We have regular monthly Events We often have guests from the gender clinic and other organisations. It is a chance to socialise within the community.

Our facebook page can be found Here

We are a North East based Transgender support group who meet the first Monday of the month in central Newcastle. We discuss gender related issues and have talks from the relevant agencies involved in working with our communities. We also give people a chance to meet others who are undertaking or have completed a similar journey in their lives. We offer a safe environment to chat and socialise and hopefully help with any problems you have.

TyneTrans is a support group for people with gender issues. This could include those who consider themselves transgender, transsexual, transvestite or a cross-dresser, but it could also be useful for those who don't use these labels and have a non-standard gender presentation. Whatever the label you use (or don't use!), TyneTrans might be helpful to you.

We are located in Newcastle upon Tyne, England, but our area of operation is far wider. In fact we welcome enquiries from people from anywhere. You don't have to live in the Tyneside area to take part or be a member of TyneTrans.

What are our aims?
We want to help differently-gendered people have successful and happy lives.
We want them to be treated with respect and to have the same opportunities as any other person. We want to be able to help when there are issues that need attention, or to be able to refer individuals on to those who could offer specialised help.

Above all, we want to promote a positive image of transgendered and differently-gendered folk, so that they gain greater acceptance in contemporary society.

TyneTrans - Who runs the group?

TyneTrans is a democratically constituted community group, run by its members and for its members interests. We have a small committee (Secretary, Chairperson, Treasurer, etc.) that runs the day to day affairs of the group, but all major decision making is done by the membership. We get no state funding, but we do get valuable logistical help from Newcastle City Council. We provide refreshments at the meetings and gratefully accept any donations toward these.

TyneTrans - Why have a support group?

Being differently-gendered can be a very isolating condition. Many people with gender issues are still 'in the closet', which means that they hardly ever get to meet anyone like themselves, and this can often cause loneliness, depression, anxiety, etc. Even those who are 'out' often lead very solitary lives, or don't get much of as chance to make friends or meet people who share their interests. TyneTrans will help to break the feelings of isolation, give information, advice and emotional support, and encourage members to take an active part in society (to the extent they are able). It doesn't matter if you are 'out', 'closeted', male, female, trans or otherwise… we can help.
